Where can I buy a used car in Finland?
Where can I buy a used car in Finland?
Where can I buy a used car in Finland? Is there some classified ad site that is popular among Finns? I want to try and find out how much used cars cost, how much apartments go for? Things like that?
Re: Where can I buy a used car in Finland?
Well my plan was to live in a van for a while, or an RV. Do you think that's practical or not?tummansininen wrote:Cart before the horse? You don't know where you will be living, haven't got a job here and as far as I know haven't even got a residence permit yet? These things matter since if you want to live in Helsinki you will probably not need a car (and running them is very expensive). I don't know how much money you'll have when you arrive but without fluent Finnish and a Finnish work history you may easily burn through 20 000 euro before finding work, even if you're not a big spender. Driving a car becomes a luxury expense. If you are that interested, have a look at http://www.autotie.fi/
As for apartments there is a whole forum about housing with info on where to look. viewforum.php?f=21

No worries tummansininen, the stupid genes prevalent abroad will take care of themselves with some fat yankee wannabe-finn in a caravan over the winter
only problem it'll find some farmers daughter adopting puppies and procreate

Yes, I forgot to mention. I'd be heading far south for half the year. Like Greece or something.tuttu wrote:only in summer.niceguy40 wrote:Well my plan was to live in a van for a while, or an RV. Do you think that's practical or not?
So if I owned a small piece of land, could I park my RV on it for the summer if I'm not there full time?

Incorrect. http://www.migri.fi/working_in_finland/ ... nce_permittummansininen wrote:How will you do that? You won't have permission to go elsewhere in the Schengen zone with merely a Finnish residence permit. RP is not the same as "EU citizen with freedom of movement rights" and movement rights for non-EU citizens with RP only extend to family members of EU citizens while in their immediate company... which you are not. Pretty sure Greece will stop you at the border and say, "You're an American, show us your visa."
"If you have been granted a residence permit for Finland, you may travel in the Schengen area without a visa for up to 90 days in any 180 days period. When travelling you must have with you a passport and residence permit card, or a passport containing your residence permit."

Define "live". Inside Greek borders the handling should be the same whether a non EU citizen arrives from within Schengen or from outside.tummansininen wrote:Ah my bad, I had forgotten the three months tourist thing. So he can go over the border, but won't he need a visa to live there? RP doesn't grant the freedom to live there, as it would for an EU citizen, does it?

This guy is trolling hahaha
Re: Where can I buy a used car in Finland?
You need a special permit to live in a van down by the river.
That's freedom for you.
That's freedom for you.
As he persisted, I was obliged to tootle him gently at first and then, seeing no improvement, to trumpet him vigorously with my horn.
Re: Where can I buy a used car in Finland?
Well that's just one option. I'm saying that based on having my full citizenship which I'm hoping I can get. I'm hoping I can just declare based on my father having his citizenship. Sounds like there's a lot of Rules in the EU that I might not be aware of.

Re: Where can I buy a used car in Finland?
is OP from outside EU? i can't really say much about that, having always been a EU citizen.
but what mr niceguy plans is fairly common in central europe. living in a van, going with the climate.
i've done it myself for a while.
and for finland as much as for the other countries i stayed i can say, nobody will bother you if you choose your place wisely (not offending anyone, not obstructing traffic...) and don't stay longer than a few nights on public places. for longer, you have to try to find an arrangement with someone (who owns the land?).
(of course, somebody will chime in at this point and discuss legalese for the next 3 pages, but this is my experience.)
so, mr niceguy, just do it!
and sometimes it's better to use your favorite search engine before opening a new thread on every question that pops into your mind....

Thanks that gives me hope. Ya I was sort of thinking of just buying a van. That way I could travel around. Then, if I can find a cheap lake side piece of land or a cabin maybe purchase that as my summer home. Then in the winters I'd like to go to the Mediterranean.
Re: Where can I buy a used car in Finland?
Just a hint, the lake side pieces of lands or especially cabins are not the cheapest ones here. They're usually quite popular, and considered to be the prime locations for mökki (cabin), so also the asking prices are higher for lake or seaside property or plots, compared to the ones that are in the middle of nowhereforest.
Of course, what you consider 'cheap' is also relative. But considering you want to buy just a van to live in, made me point out the above.
and to your question in the topic:
http://www.nettiauto.com
http://www.autotalli.com
http://www.tori.fi
..and first and foremost: http://www.google.com ! Can find those above even with an English search for used cars in Finland. How hard can it be?
