Residence permit expires before appointment to Poliisi

Hi,

I have a student residence permit which expires on 18th August, however when I applied in the poliissi for the appointment, I am given the appoint for 24th September, which is quite late. What should I do in this situation?

Can't I just walk in to the police station any time before and stand in a queue or something to apply for the extension?

Yes you can, but mind you, the que will take at least one hour. Also, if you're going to the one in Helsinki, I think you'll have to be in the 2nd lobby, which is a door that says "immigration" immediately on your left when you enter, easily overlooked. I believe it's open for non-appointments from 12:15-16:15 but don't quote me on it.
