Permit Application Status
Permit Application Status
Hi,
I have applied for my first Residence Permit (Researcher) 51 days ago. I have checked migri.fi website for information on processing time of different types of applications. As I noticed, researcher permit would take 23 days to be processed. The duration for student permit is 21 days. Are these duration workdays or normal days (23 workdays or just three weeks and two days)? A friend of mine who had submitted her application in June 8th, was notified about the decision about her application (student) about a week ago. I waited for a notification from the Embassy for another week and still I have no idea about my application (no notification yet). I was wondering if there is any means of tracking my application's status (Except contacting the Embassy)? I am not sure if I will receive a permit or if I do, then when. I do not think there is any online tracking system to follow up on the applications (we had to apply in person in the Embassy, so no online application).
Any Suggestions?
Thanks.

Re: Permit Application Status
Don't rely on your friend's experience and measure yours to it; each case is different. Wait a bit longer, it's even 2 months yet.
Every case is unique. You can't measure the result of your application based on arbitrary anecdotes online.

You've been looking at the average times, not the expected or guaranteed time. Right now they have all the student applications to process and it is an avalanche. Students are processed asap so they can start studies on time - this is why your friend's was done first.
It's still very likely yours will happen within four months, which is the guideline within the law. And barring anything weird in your application, it's likely to be approved.
Well, I am concerned for three reasons:
1. The processing time for those two (based on migri.fi) are very close (although they are average time).
2. My contract starts from August 1st and I am not sure what are the consequences of this possible delay. At first when I received my contract, they told me that the RP processing might take about two months.
3. Since I have no idea when my RP will be ready, I have not planned anything regarding the travel to Finland (Mostly, I am confused about flight ticket date). Also, I have arranged for accommodation from August 1st and I have payed the deposit.
Anyway, Thank you very much for your answers.

Outside summer this might have relevance.rebvar wrote: 1. The processing time for those two (based on migri.fi) are very close (although they are average time).
Without the permit you are not allowed to work so you wait.rebvar wrote: 2. My contract starts from August 1st and I am not sure what are the consequences of this possible delay. At first when I received my contract, they told me that the RP processing might take about two months.
If we are talking about a lease here, probably best to pay August and move in when the permit is ready.rebvar wrote: 3. I guess the only thing that I can do is to wait.

Re: Permit Application Status
Hi Guys,
I received my permit after 56 days. Although I have a research contract for 4 years, but I have received a one year B permit for now.

Re: Permit Application Status
The default for first permit is one year. I presume the type is B based on the fixed end date of the contract. I assume you applied with the work based form. The EU researcher directive (if you qualify) gives you an A permit. If you think you should have gotten an A permit, you can lodge an appeal. The biggest downside to B permits is that they don't accumulate time for P permits and they accumulate slower for citizenship.rebvar wrote: I received my permit after 5 days. Thank you. No I would not mind receiving type A rp. Although I prefered to receive A. This was for clarification in case someone else has the same situation. Although I heard that after one year, I can apply for type A rp.betelgeuse wrote:The default for first permit is one year. I presume the type is B based on the fixed end date of the contract.
