How do the finns call this black grease widely used for ball bearings in bike bearings, car bearings...
The only word I know is rasva and for bike grease...I don't think it fits
Thanks
I need back grease for cars, bikes, where to find?
Re: I need back grease for cars, bikes, where to find?
You mean black grease, I guess?
Now that you mention it, in Finnish, rasva is a word with wide set of meanings: it can include the (usually white or colorless) things you spread on someone's skin to cure a rash, (usually more or less yellow) things you spread on bread, and the stuff you put into machines' bearings (possibly with the help of a grease gun and zerk fittings).
Voitelurasva (lubricant grease) is a specific term for what you're looking for. An unused lubricant grease is not necessarily black: the "general use" grease I used to use at my parents' farm was more like golden-brown in color. But sure enough, it turned black after being in the bearings for a while, or just when exposed to air. Some special-purpose greases (high-temperature, high-pressure, whatever) may have different colors.

If you know the brand(s) and names(s) of what you're looking for, why not just Google it and restrict the matches to sites in Finland. There's tons of various greases for different uses, so it's impossible to say the specific Finnish term unless knowing exactly what you're after. E.g. http://www.motonet.fi/ and http://www.biltema.fi sell some.

2 options:
wikipedia and wiktionary are your friends.
- go to a bike shop and ask. they will understand english and sell you something specifically for bicycles, overpriced.
- go to a car part shop and ask. they won't understand english, but after a while they'll get what you want: lubricating grease, for bearings.
