What to do to open a pizzeria in Helsinki

Post by bd_tkk » Tue Dec 08, 2015 11:06 pm

Hello you all nice people in Finland,

One of my friend's from Poland would like to live in Helsinki and would like to open a pizzeria if possible. He asked me for some basic information but I have no clue about it. I know only that he will need to register a company in PRH office. So, I have some questions regarding that. He is learning Finnish language already for some months in Poland. If you know the right information please be kind enough to inform me here.

1. What kind of place (room) is leased for setting up a pizzeria? will any special room and permission be needed?

2. Where and how can one get information regarding leasing a shop to setup a totally new pizzeria (Or is it possible to lease a closed pizzeria shop with kitchen equipment such as oven and chimney or at least with chimney)?

3. From which office can one get the permission (laws and rules regarding opening a shop related to health and other requirements) to set up a new pizzeria?

4. Where in Finland can one buy oven, deep freezer, special refrigerator for keeping drinks? How much would an oven cost? How long an electric oven last?

5. Where one can find those workers to decorate/arrange the shop for example: to build a chimney if needed?

6. How much would it cost in total to set up a new pizzeria ?

7. How much would it cost to lease a koti pizza shop if possible?

8. Is it very difficult to set up a pizzeria in Finland?

9. What kind of license would one need to sell pizza/alcohols etc?

10. How long might it take to do all paper works, set-up and finally open it?

etc.

Any other advises regarding the setting up a new pizzeria would be appreciated.

I wish you all a nice Christmas holiday ahead.

I know there is a few guys having this kind of business - they open a pizza/kebab in some place, get the place running, fix the menu and prices so the locals agree, then sell the franchise to someone, train them the ropes, and then move on.

Very good questions, and just asking if your friend has about 100.000 euros? As under that its a bit useless to even start answering. Lets say everything is very regulated. What I would suggest is he comes to work here in a pizza/kebab and then figures things out. Mind you, there is a "pizza mafia" already, so he would be better off selling kielbasa and pierogi, as the niche is been taken by gentlemen of turkish persuasion already 20-30 years back.

Oh, and having a genuine wood-burning pizza oven in some old house its going to be "forget about it" with the buildings code...
