Bruno - what's the big deal?

Post by harryc » Tue Dec 15, 2015 12:08 pm

K had an offer for Bruno clementines now - "ONLY" 2.49/kg.

I always buy this type (mandarins, etc.) at 1-1.50/kg. Always OK - sometimes really great taste.

The 5 Brunos I bought yesterday were no better than the 'worst' 1€/kg I've had (only referring to fresh stuff here).

I've seen some older ladies going nuts when they saw 'Brunos' at Stockmann - paying probably 3-4€/kg.

Another balloon/'brand myth' shot down IMO.

First of all, with fruits you at least often get what you see. Some fruits are more difficult (for Finns at least) to estimate than others, but in general the correlation is pretty good. Regarding the price it not too surprising that with seasonal things the quality is often best when the prices are low. It is in peak season then (mandarins, clementines at 1-1.5€ here are at peak season).

Agree - but it surely seems to me that the Bruno brand doesn't mean a damn thing - so I'll stick with the 1-1.5€ :)

Many, many are seedless these days - including the good-tasting 1€/kg ones - and btw - there were seeds in 2/5 Brunos :!:

I really think it's another of those marketing games - where you are supposed to enjoy the price. :P

The post wasn't about Bruno - it was about another case of the rip-off world of 'marketing.'
