Neighbour's kid making noise at night
Neighbour's kid making noise at night
Hi,
Our neighbour's who live on the top of my apartment have a 2.5 year old kid who makes a lot of noise between in the evening untill 23:00 and sometimes even untill 24:00. I have left a notice to them and even met them to stop making this noise. They have politely told me that their kid is too stubborn and even they are fedup with his noise but cannot do anything. According to them, they took him to a doctor and she has said that its perfectly normal and they should let him do whatever he likes. They do succeed in forcing him sleep sometimes but most of the times they give up
Long story short, It's very disturbing. I have talked to few friends but they said that if it's the kid, then not even the housing company or cops can do anything about this. Is that true? Is there something I can do to force them to stop their kid from making the noise? Should I try calling the cops at night or contact someone else
P.S: the apartment belongs to a company

Re: Neighbour's kid making noise at night
It is indeed true. There's absolutely nothing that can be done. It's an unwritten rule for kerrostalot: If it's a baby/child, you'll have to suck it.biz_it wrote:Is that true?
Housing association will see you as the annoyance and cops will most likely tell you to discuss it with your neighbours as there's nothing they can do.
Better get some good earplugs or start looking into soundproofing options.

Re: Neighbour's kid making noise at night
If the kid is deemed by doctor to be fine, then there is nothing you can do. Kids make noise. When he gets older the parents have more control over the kid, but for now he is just a toddler and can't be gagged nor tied up.biz_it wrote:Hi,

Good plan!biz_it wrote:well if that is the case then I am gona raise my child to be 100 times more evil than this kid.
There's only one teeny tiny problem with it, though. Your kid will be annoying to the neighbours for about 2-3 years, but will be such a pain in the butt for you for the following couple of decades. Enjoy

Re: Neighbour's kid making noise at night
imho a 2.5year old should be asleep for several hours already by then.biz_it wrote:Our neighbour's who live on the top of my apartment have a 2.5 year old kid who makes a lot of noise between in the evening untill 23:00 and sometimes even untill 24:00. ... they took him to a doctor and she has said that its perfectly normal and they should let him do whatever he likes. ask them how much time the kids spends on laptop/tablet/phone, and how much time playing outside.
Re: Neighbour's kid making noise at night
Why kid should be asleep at that time? If kid sleeps 10h/day, does it matter when that sleep happens? Especially now when it is dark all day and night.tuttu wrote:imho a 2.5year old should be asleep for several hours already by then.biz_it wrote:Our neighbour's who live on the top of my apartment have a 2.5 year old kid who makes a lot of noise between in the evening untill 23:00 and sometimes even untill 24:00. ... they took him to a doctor and she has said that its perfectly normal and they should let him do whatever he likes. Re: Neighbour's kid making noise at night
OP, aren't you the guy who feed his kid in the store because of his outburts?
The other day there was a very similar post on Fb, but from a parent whose children could not go to sleep early enough. Their upstairs neighbour took the bullying approach to handle the situation, complained to the house and even tried to scare the family. It seemed to have some effect on the person, although I can imagine it would just piss off many people.
Your best approach is empathy. As in, there is nothing you can really do, unless you want to be an ass, and you already know that these parents are concerned about their child, to the point that they went to see a doctor - it could be lie, of course. They probably want it to stop more than you do, and perhaps other neighbours are on their case.
Taking their POV will at least help you sleep better...
Besides, from a practical - and rather cynical POV, guilt seems to work way better than aggressive behaviour to get compliance.

MOVE - or wait till the kid gets older - or just get used to it!Our neighbour's who live on the top of my apartment have a 2.5 year old kid who makes a lot of noise
Re: Neighbour's kid making noise at night
Exactly this. Anyone who cannot handle the normal or even abnormal sounds from normal living in kerrostalo, often the cheaper housing option, will just have to move elsewhere. Simple as that, be it one's own apartment or the company's. If it bothers you enough, you will move.harryc wrote:MOVE - or wait till the kid gets older - or just get used to it!Our neighbour's who live on the top of my apartment have a 2.5 year old kid who makes a lot of noise
Kerrostalos usually have a 'night-time silence curfew thing' from 22-07 (times slightly vary) mostly as a courtesy, it seems, as some people just DGAF. What you were describing sounds simply as bad parenting and not being able to control their monster(s). I'd feel a bit sad for those parents, too, they must be exhausted - so it's also baffling that they haven't sought for any real help anywhere for tips to handle their brat. Especially as it sounds like they are just sheeple who can't handle their responsibility.
I've had my share of kerrostalo, never again.
