Shaving adaptor?

Post by MaxW » Tue Jan 12, 2016 7:03 pm

So I've got an electric toothbrush which plugs into UK shaving sockets, BS 4573. I've forced it into a standard socket here and it's charging but it's quite hard to pull out. Is this safe or do I need to get a special adaptor from somewhere?

The shaver socket is only known as that in the UK, so I'd recommend not using that name as it can confuse people.

Anyway, I think I have a bad news for you. The BS4573 and the general Europlug are actually quite similar except in one little tiny detail, the European standard EN50075 has the pins 19mm apart while the BS4573 has them 17mm apart. That's why it's difficult to shove them in each other's socket.
So, how do you solve this? Well, you have 3 options ranked by ease:
- Get a Schuko universal adaptor http://www.amazon.com/Grounded-Universa ... B004SY5O5K You can find them in Prisma, Minimani, or some K-Citymarket
- Cut the cable and connect it to a Schuko plug https://www.yeint.fi/index.php?main=272 ... ctID=25833
- Find a specific BS4573-EN50075 adapter.
Every case is unique. You can't measure the result of your application based on arbitrary anecdotes online.

Thanks a lot! Will go to a Prisma and see if they've got one.
