2 laptops in hand luggage?
2 laptops in hand luggage?
You can usually take one laptop bag along with hand luggage, how about 2 laptops + a hand luggage bag? Would that cause any problem at Helsinki airport? I have read mixed opinions regarding that on some websites. Does anybody have such experience?
Re: 2 laptops in hand luggage?
luggage allowances are decided by airlines
Also you don't mention if each laptop will be in it's own bag or which cabin class you are travelling in.
I have travelled with two laptops many times but put them into the same backpack (and that backpack is my only piece of cabin baggage).
The best place to check is http://www.flyertalk.com/, based on which airline you are travelling (do not post a question in the nordic forum).
The airlines which have refitted their planes with ultra thin seats and so squash in more rows but without any increase in overhead bin space police baggage rules more strictly - lufthansa is probably the worst for this with BA also affected now. They will do it at the gate when boarding if the plane is really full. This is not a good time to find out you must either put the laptops in the hold or not fly at all.

Re: 2 laptops in hand luggage?
I've flown while carrying two laptops in my backpack with KLM, Austrian, Turkish, and Finnair, all without any problem.
One time I had 3 laptops, which was okay with the airline, but the customs didn't like it. They stopped me and actually ended up calling my employer to verify that I'm not selling the laptops.. even though all 3 of them were clearly heavily used.

Re: 2 laptops in hand luggage?
As long its not restricted item I don't think the airlines are concerned what you carry but in how many pieces of luggage. Quite frankly I would hazard to guess the laptop in a dedicated carry case rule is simply a special extra allowance on the single carry on baggage rule to allow safe transportation of delicate hardware. I think the question is largely moot.
Re: 2 laptops in hand luggage?
Check the hand luggage allowance for your airline and booking class: number of pieces, size, and weight. You can take any number of laptops as long as they are within those limits. That is what you have paid for.
Note that you may be able to slip more hand luggage through self-service check-in and security and then get into trouble at the gate when boarding the plane. Also, the airline may not care what you have on the way out and suddenly become very strict on the way back. Discount airlines have done this to catch passengers with extra fees. Other airlines may have a real reason, such as a smaller a plane or more passengers, to enforce the rules strictly. Thus, stay within your allowance.

Did you mean the customs at Helsinki Vantaa airport or at the destination? Do you have to go through the customs when you're departing? I've never noticed that.Beep_Boop wrote: One time I had 3 laptops, which was okay with the airline, but the customs didn't like it. In Helsinki when coming back. They also checked my camera to see if it has personal picture to prove it's mine for my own use.sky2 wrote:Did you mean the customs at Helsinki Vantaa airport or at the destination?

I'm thinking to take a few electronics as gifts to family, the list includes: 3 laptops (all used). 1 tablet computer (new, unopened). 3 phones (unopened) + 1 personal phone. 2 Fountain pens.Beep_Boop wrote:In Helsinki when coming back. Everything will fit in the weight limit (8kg) but my only concern is that if they will have any concerns at Helsinki when leaving. I will not bring back anything, so that wont be any problem on the return.
I'll appreciate any advice.
Re: 2 laptops in hand luggage?
They don't care what you take out with you (except dangerous stuff on the plane), only what you bring in. So don't worry at all.sky2 wrote:I'll appreciate any advice.
