Jobs for IT professionals?

Post by lenon3579 » Sun Mar 20, 2016 5:05 pm

Hi!!

I'm a Brazilian guy who is going to study in Espoo, on the IT degree. I have already self-studied programming, and taken some online and presential courses of Java, Python and Unity 3d (I want to work on Game Development, on the long term, but I don't mind if I have to program other things for a living).

I don't have much money, so I'll have to work to survive. And every time there is a discussion on this forums, and other places like IRC, and people I met in forums about other things, people always say "There are no Jobs on Finland, you will not find anything. Except if you work on IT". This little last bit is unsettling me. Do it speaks the truth? Are there really jobs for programmers? Or is this just myth, something people just repeat like a mantra?

Yes it does. The key here is to not suck. If you suck, then it's gonna be very difficult to find a job in IT in Finland.

I won't repeat myself, so check my posts in these threads:

I discuss and mention many points on how not to suck. Check also roger_roger's posts in the same threads, he has a lot of good advice as well.
Not sucking is a difficult thing to achieve, so good luck.
Every case is unique. You can't measure the result of your application based on arbitrary anecdotes online.

Hi there!

Thanks for the words and the advices!

Yeah, right now I still suck. But I have time to learn to not to suck until I really get there and start looking for a job, and to build a good portifolio - like six to eight months.

As I have already the basics of Java, do you think a good idea to focus in developing this skill further early on, to find a job there, and then proceed to Unity3d/C# only later on?

Thanks again!
