Over taxing question.
I have been a normal tax payer in Finland, for almost 8 years.
When 2 years ago, beginning in 2013, they started sending me additional taxation letters from the tax people,
first time they send a letter saying they want almost 200 euro for the end of the year, then same thing the next year,
now they say they want 289.20 on the 25.11.2016 and 289.20 on the 01.02.2017.
So a total of 578.40 for this year 2016. On top of the tax what I already pay each month, (7% of my normal wages) excluding pension and social security.
I feel like I am being robbed.
Whats up with this over taxing? Seems like daylight robbery.

Withholding percentage can be adjusted online:Cory wrote: The notice you just received is the 2015 tax assessment. You should call the tax office and amend the percentage of tax you pay because you are obviously not paying enough tax on what you ear every year.

Probably you meant to say "not withheld enough". You do get a free loan from the state this way

Re: Over taxing question.
It is. I started doing it after I learned it from betelgeuse a few years ago. Not that I need it, but just to see if I can manage to play with my finances like that.roger_roger wrote:Is it really interest free?
Essentially, there's an amount of owed taxes that you "take" from the government and keep for some time, then you return the same exact amount later (a year and half or so). So yeah, basically an interest-free loan.
@Timandahaf
No you're not being robbed. 8 freaking years and you still don't know how taxation in Finland works.
Login to Vero online service to adjust your percentage appropriately. If you do it right, you'll probably get some money at the end of the year.
Every case is unique. You can't measure the result of your application based on arbitrary anecdotes online.

The limit for 2015 is 4 788 euros owed. This is a side effect of the extremely low interest rates.Beep_Boop wrote:It is. I started doing it after I learned it from betelgeuse a few years ago. So your tax % is 7 ??? So in other words you're paying less tax than gets deducted from unemployment benefits. On top of the tax what I already pay each month, (7% of my normal wages) excluding pension and social security.

Come back and whine when you pay 27 or 37 or 47%

The interesting part is that he's been paying 7% from 2008 to 2013, and only in 2013 did Vero start asking him for money. What kind of job pays that low salary to warrant a 7% tax rate? And how do you maintain the same low income for 5 years? Very weird story.

But that is why you either are rich or are on benefits to "live" in Finland. I moved to the UK so I can now actually "live" on my salary
in Finland I could afford to go to Lidl on payday, in the UK I can afford to go eat out and take a taxi home...
The quarterly yt-rounds are a constant in any country though...
