Leaving Nordea for another bank, which one?
Leaving Nordea for another bank, which one?
Edit: Found a table of prices and costs of all banks in the s-pankki website (in Finnish): https://www.s-pankki.fi/fi/tule-asiakka ... laskelmat/. I think it makes a good argument for switching to S-Pankki if you have etukortti (if you don't you still need to pay for the account/card)
Hi,
I'm done with Nordea. Between the charge to withdraw money from the ATM after a few times a month, the removal of the banking codes to a mandatory app (or pay 50e per code card)... I'm done.
The only important things for me are:
-Internet banking (regardless of Fi/Eng)
-No mandatory app to access internet banking (just regular code card)
-Lowest fees possible (for withdrawing money, bank transfers, maintenance...)
-That the appointment to make the account can be in English
Any suggestions? Thanks!
Cheers
PS: Do I first need to meet with Nordea to tell them I'm leaving or new bank and they handle the transfer between banks?

Why leaving Nordea?
Danske bank is otherwise expensive but if you are student and/or young (below 27 i think) or alternatively a good amount to keep the minimum balance, it can be a good option.
First you should discuss with the new bank where you are interested to open the account and show them your Nordea bank history and they'd suggest you how to proceed with that.

I'm using S-pankki because it has or had lowest fees. Internet banking works well, no mandatory apps, customer service is in S-group shops so everywhere really. You don't even need ATM although you can use one if you want. You can get money from any of the S-group shops without service fees. Best places to open account are Prismas and Sokos'. And you can get service in english. If the people there doesn't speak english, you can ask them to call office and ask someone there to translate. I used to work in S-group office where shops calls when they have problems with customer service and I never had to translate english but one of my colleagues translated few times swedish.

One can get money also from K-kauppa without fees during your normal shopping. Biggest banks' debit cards are supported.SAHM wrote:You can get money from any of the S-group shops without service fees.

I also use S-Bank because it's the best option. They don't charge you for using your money to make money for themselves like Nordea and all others.SAHM wrote:I'm using S-pankki because it has or had lowest fees. Only downside for a new person is that the bank's page is only in Finnish

Note the bolded part.roger_roger wrote:what about home loan, auto loan or other personal loans? In Nordea you can get up to 25k loan without any mortgage.
do they really charge money to withdraw from otto?ljl16 wrote:charge to withdraw money from the ATM after a few times a month, the removal of the banking codes to a mandatory app

The change will only come in force from the beginning of November. See here for more information:roger_roger wrote:I'm not convinced with that part, They haven't said anything about it here as well http://www.nordea.fi/en/personal-custom ... tab=Pricesbetelgeuse wrote:Note the bolded part.

There’s also this HS.fi article which mentions the fact and compares Nordea’s fees to the other banks:

i'm with s-Bank because it's free, but I don't like the battleship style codecard, I'd rather get a single use code by SMS, like normal banks in Europe do. The bank doesn't offer any significant sicurity feature,no SMS when the debit card is used or when money comes in or out your account, they only offer an email service, but it takes a few days before the amount taken shows up on the daily supposed "up to date" balance account, so by the time you notice it, your account could be fraudentely emptied, not good. This is reeeeally silly, it would be also in the bank's interest to offer better security features.Honest wrote:I also use S-Bank because it's the best option. You're not making very informed choices. It's true that Nordea will start charging for ATM withdrawals, if you make more than 4 per mont. The charge after 4 withdrawals is 40 cents a go. However, S-Pankki also charges you for withdrawals after fiur (five?) times a month, only they charge 1 euro a pop...
With purchases you can withdraw money in Tokmanni and K-kauppa with your Nordea card, free of charge and up to 200 euros a go. I presume you'd be able to do that with S-Pankki cards as well, in shops that belong in S-Ryhma.
I have accounts in both banks but I prefer Nordea. The code app is super handy compares to S-Pankki's code card. If one is computer / tech illiterate though, then old school and S-Pankki are probably the best bet.

It's not only about using ATM. Nordea charges for every card and also additionally for the bank codes.
S-Bank doesn't charge for the codes and you are allowed to have two cards free of charge.

Yeah, personally I like S-bank too.
They have convenient opening hours, because its about the same hours as the department store itself (slightly shorter, but still open saturday and sunday!) if you ever need to ask about anything.
You can deposit money or withdraw money from your account in all the smarket grocery stores (alepa, prisma, etc) though i guess maybe the people in the queue wouldn't appreciate it that much.
Also the s-debit card also works as a customer card and you get some bonus from your shopping when you pay with this a s-owned stores.
They have an app where its easy to do transfers and look at transactions (if you can read finnish or swedish)
and all of the internet banking service is free.
I can look at some vouchers and discounts in their app too. I like the battleship code cards : ).
