Joint deposit accounts

Post by Y77 » Thu May 09, 2019 1:33 pm

Hi

does anybody know if there are any deposit accounts Säästötilit that allow more than one owner? For example husband and wife as joint account holders? I know it is possible to have normal joint current accounts, but I'm struggling to find savings-deposit accounts that allow that, for example bank norwegian doesn't do that. Thanks!

I'll answer your question at the end. And apologies for the following.

I don't mean to be offensive or critical of the culture as such, but please be aware that the culture here is more independent, and not family oriented. The politics ensures that, even though there are visible facilities to be family oriented may be there, e.g. maternity/ paternity leaves, etc.

If I use Anne Isabella Thackeray Ritchie's (1837–1919) novel, Mrs. Dymond (1885), "if you give a man a fish he is hungry again in an hour. If you teach him to catch a fish you do him a good turn". Taken in context, this has led to a moral issue, i.e. some have gotten so used to being fed on other's labour, that now they consider it their right.

I'm with Henry Theroux on this, i.e. What is the incentive for the government for a joint property if they cannot get their hands on it? They are shameless, greedy and hungry, never mind if it is your money, they'd like to get their hards on it.

Anyway: Joint holding, what is your objective? Be careful: Joint here does not necessarily mean joint. I got three different responses from three different banks, depending on who I spoke to. There is also the financial regulatory authority's statement on this, but the banks avoid it at their convenience. All-in-all, it depends on the person you speak to.

So, e.g. if a spouse dies, in some cases, a joint account continues as normal, i.e. the remaining spouse can use and continue to operate the account - as should be the case. In other cases, the account is frozen as it is considered inheritance (estate) - EVEN though it defines the logic of a joint account.

To answer the question, yes, savings account with multiple holders are possible, ask for a "yhteinen säästötilit" from the normal banks

Not that you would get any returns but Nordea savings accounts at least have allowed it.

I thought it was Jeezus or some other fictitious characters that said that thing about the fish and fishermen. Nice speech however, you should teach philosophy and creative destruction.
