I am applying for a family based resident permit and our marriage certificate is due to be delivered next month, however, my migri interview is before that date. Can I upload the marriage certificate to migri after the interview and fingerprints?

Yes, you can. If they need to see the original they will ask but in general is not needed.

Or are you implying that as a family member of an EU citizen, I have an automatic right of residence
in Finland and therefore no EXPLICIT permission is required and my family residence card is not an
actual PERMIT in that sense but a document confirming my right of residence in Europe?

I don't imply anything. I just look at boxes that Finnish immigration service provides and tick them according to the info you provided. If you are married to EU, Nordic, Swiss or Lichtenstein citizen, you won't tick the residence permit box. For that your spouse needs to be not from those countries mentioned and living here with residence permit. As your spouse is from Iceland, thus from Nordic country, you do tick the residence card box. Just like with cars, you can fill up with fuel, but it wont work if you did it with diesel when you should have gotten gas.

Bonus tidbit: you would be applying for the residence permit, if your wife was Finn. Thus spouses of EU/nordic/etc. are in better position when moving to Finland than spouses of native Finns.
