Don't forget 2 points for a safety (if your player gets tackled in your own end zone).

And yeah, after you score a touchdown, you have the option to either kick it in for 1 extra point, or run/pass it in for a "2 point conversion".

How often does that happen?

Rare. Once every 3 weeks or so.

I think Tennessee forced a safety yesterday by blocking a punt and it flew back past the end zone.

Yes. It's something like a 52 man roster. That's the number of people you can have standing on the sideline.

And your team has 11 players on the pitch at one time. You can "substitute" them at any time (after play has stopped).

For offense might be something like:

1 quarterback (the field general, throws passes, yells 'hike')
2 wide recievers (catch the ball, skinny fast dudes)
5 offensive linemen (big fat dudes who guard the QB and try to push open 'holes' to run thru)
1 halfback (commonly called "running back". the guy who runs with the ball. 50% quick, 50% strong)...
sometimes a "fullback" is used instead of a halfback. the fullback is (100% strong, 0% quick)
2 tight ends (also catch passes, but they provide run "support" by blocking defenders.

For defense, this might be something like:

4 defensive linemen (who line up against the offensive linemen, big fat dudes who try to get the QB)
3 linebackers (back up the linemen, and usually try to rush the qb, might try to swat down a pass or look for holes and try to tackle a runner going thru one)
2 cornerbacks (note: CORNERbacks, they match up against the wide receivers and try to stop the pass)
2 safeties (who kind of roam around behind the linebackers. they might match up against the tight ends, might cover the receivers, might blitz the quarterback, might try to stop the run).

IMHO, safety is the coolest position on the football field. They do everything. Oh, and Roy Williams is the best safety.

He certainly has a good technique for stopping people.

I'd hate to see him running toward me.

What's that coming over the hill? Is it a monster? Is it a monster?

LOL, but come on..... Chicago is also home of the Blues Brothers, the setting for every John Hughes movie, the tallest buliding in america (Sears Tower), Mike Ditka, home of the best NBA team in history (DA BULLS!), home of the blues (Buddy Guy, Muddy Waters, etc...) Walt Disney is from chicago, Playboy magazine was started in chicago, home town of great actors (Harrison Ford, John Malkovich, Bill Murray, Robin Williams, etc...), the most infamous gangster of all time (Al Capone), famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright, author Ernest Hemingway, the next president of the united states (Hilary Clinton!!!), and the greatest Chicagoan of all time.... MR.T!!!!!

Of course let's not forget that chicago is the home of the next superbowl champions :P

Football/Soccer is more about "tactics" while American football is more about "strategy".
Does that mean that the teams make a plan for the whole season? "We'll start badly, then win eight in a row and collapse spectacularly during the last third of the season".

The Lakers play in Chicago?

No I'm leaning towards the Raiders, apparently all the other NFL fans hate them (sounds like my soccer team). And they are a bit crap so no gloryhunting for me.

American football eh? Canada is in the Americas... does the CFL count? It has been around longer than the NFL and has a faster pace. Three downs instead of four and a larger field. More passes and it does not take 45 min to play the last 4 min of game time. I know... who cares... hard enough finding people here who do.. better comercials with USA channels...

Give it all up and watch hockey instead. Where men are men and the woman are tougher than the NFL footballers.

I have the hockey with canal plus, but with all the prem games they show, I'm already getting my monies worth. I've given hockey a go but it really is dull as dishwater. The NFL is watchable when there is no English football on. Currently watching Raiders Broncos. Raiders are not doing so well.
