It does matter in a way, because it makes a difference to which voting district / valkrets you vote in etc, but yes, it is not a major concern as you say.
But I would be interested to know...

Jaha, I see. (Strange in your case... I hope they sorted it out!!). My husband and two children (who have never lived in Finland) obtained citizenship by declaration and were automatically registered in the same registry office where my husband's father (and his family) had been registered before he left Finland in 1940.
They are, of course, registered as living in the United States, but we get notices from the registry office when they do things like get passports or when my daughter turned 18 years old (to remind her of what she has to do to retain her Finnish citizenship past the age of 22 years).
