I did the same. The pets got scared, however...
MagicJ wrote:Question: Why with probably the smallest strikeforce in International football did we keep hoofing the ball into the box?
I was wondering the same thing, but it wouldn't be so bad if Lennon was on the right and could cross early, instead of cutting back so all in the box are static...and of course Phil Neville wasn't crossing...
MagicJ wrote:I think AJ did as good a job as possible in the circumstances but the game was as predictable as any England international. If we can't beat Andorra or at least produce a convincing display then it's time for McLaren to go in my opinion.
Our left-back, right-back, left and right wide players were all playing out of position...Fat Frank has to be dropped or McClaren has to go. Too much fannying around and no guts with line-up decisions...

salopian,
I think now is the time for McClaren to go. The problem with England, not just now but over the past thiry years is the players expect the world to lie down for them. They won the world cup in 66 but times have changed and people want more. Everyone who plays against Enland is in effect playing a cup final. Look at us (Northern Ireland). Small nations will raise their game to play for a result. The england team have no cohesion or sense of team spirit. They are a group of highly paid individuals just playing another game. I dont actually think some of them care if they win or lose.
England need to beliueve again. Dont take success for granted. The world owes you nothing. They must get back to basics and acknowledge that they are no longer a force in world football as teams that are are in short supply now.
On a lighter note, what about the mighty green and white army????? :D :D

Its an easy job this I don't know what the problem is:

1. Watch games, spot players CURRENTLY on form
2. Pick on form players
3. See if they can play together in the meaningless friendlies
4. Take the on form players who can play together and play them in their natural positions.

Every man and his dog can see that Fwank and Gerrard can't play together in that midfield one of them has to be dropped. Fwank is a luxury player who has 30 yard shot every time he gets the ball and amazingly scores a few deflected goals a season. He is not international standard.

Yep totally agree with you Reverend. When are they going to realise this Fwank/Gerrard combo doesn't work? How can they have not spotted it by now?
The majority of teams play the diamond and Owen Hargreaves should compliment the more attacking StevieG nicely, he misplaces passes occasionaly but he was our best player at the world cup.
As they pointed out on MoTD this week we don't get enough players into the box when attacking because Fwank and Stevie are too busy holding hands and not prepared to take any risks. The Owen/Gerrard system should free the scouser up to get forward more.

Bloody Stuart Downing should be dropped as well, it's just Middleboro favouritism, thankfully Joe Cole should play there when fit and if not i think It should be Bridge and Ashley Tweedy on the left.

What strikeforce would you pick, if you're looking at form (well England form anyway) then Rooney should be dropped. Yikes, what then..........

I would play Johnson and Rooney as there is no other option unfortunately. I think they might start scoring with the midfield sorted out though. Like Belfast Boy said England should realise their limitations but we should be able to go to Israel and get 3 points.

We should play proper left and right wingers and attacking full backs. Not central defenders as full backs and central midfielders on the wing.

It seems Mr. Hansen doesn't agree with us

Alan Hansen's column
"If I was England boss, no way would I drop Gerrard or Lampard"

Sorry i don't know how to emphasize a really heavy scottish accent on the 'no way' section of this sentence.

INTERNATIONALS
Lampard ruled out of Andorra game
Frank Lampard is out of England's Euro 2008 qualifier against Andorra because of a broken wrist.

I bet he's happy to play in the next Chelsea game though

erm sheepish edit.....

The BBC is happy to contradict itself on it's own site (and even the same page!)

Frank Lampard will play despite having his right hand in plaster due to a broken bone in his wrist.

The 28-year-old suffered the injury during training on Monday when he was struck by a Wayne Rooney shot.
Deflect that Fwank.

Scored on his debut, but his first England goal was stealing someone else's effort against Andorra from all of an inch out. Ahahaha. He can look back with pride...

Rumours are that Fat Frank was dropped...but the whole situation with England is a big, fat mess.

Unbelievable effort from Healy again...

once again Northern Ireland show that Belfast is the hardest place for visitors to pick up points.

Tell me something new, ever since I was about 12 when my dad used to take me to England Wembley games, I'd say roughly 3/4 of matches have ended in boos and disappointment. And the manager is always 'crap'.

I think the whole baggage of being the 'home of football' and 1966 has just weighed the national team down since. The weight of pressure from the expectant country and massive media circus is just too much for the players to play free of the fear of losing and forces the manager to play a 'keep my job safe' percentage game . England expects - too much.

Maybe England shouldn't have a manager at all but the players and formations be chosen by a national phone/text vote!
