Yes, we deleted everything, partitions etc. We have a full version of XP, we were installin g and there came an error tellng that something was not fully installed. what the @#$%? we tried the second time, there was the same. so unfortunately, we had to install Vista again....

to that one who asked why I dont like Vista - because many my preffered programs dont work there. and all my life I was using XP, so I want them now too.

1. A lot of programms don't run under Vista.
2. XP is faster.
3. I hate to confirm all actions 1000 times.

I would also change to XP, if I could. Unfortunately I can't find XP-drivers for all components.

It would be good to know the make and model also, when you formatted the drive did you use a separate formating/partitioning tool or the one in the XP setup, because if you didn't it is 'doubtful' if this would work properly because XP would not recognise a Vista drive, rather like a windows 98 start up disk not recognising a NFTS partition.

I meant I was always using XP when it was created. You have got me!

We didnt see any other formatting tool, only one in Windows XP setup CD with the whole information about disk capacity.We deleted all partitions and configured two new partitions. After reboot windows was continuing setup and then it cashed. Thats all.

Another problem maybe if you have a SATA drive, you have to load the xp sata driver separately. press F6 when XP starts to load, you can get the XP sata drivers from the laptop manufacturers site.

Ok I understand some things don't run on Vista yet, but 6 years ago, everyone was having the same problem with XP and complaining about that. I also rfind Vista much quicker, I guess it's really just a matter of preference.

When MS bring out a new OS they get millions of unpaid people to test it, people like you who have no choice when they buy a new PC/laptop from a shop because the new OS is bundled with them, so they find all the bugs,problems and compatibility issues, then they write off and complain about it, MS then tries to come up with the fixes and fixes for the fixes. Once most issues have been solved then companies start to buy the new OS, so when you hear that large companies are dumping their PC's and buying new ones then you know that it is ok to use the new OS, probably...

Also if you wait the price of the components to run the OS will have fallen in price. Microsoft are laughable when it comes to minimum system requirements e.g. (quoted from MS site)

I am avoiding Vista because of DRM issues.

There are real problems with Vista for some applications. These problems are not teething troubles with a new system, they have been deliberately designed into the product.
