The small dial in the center is to control how many spins per minute or something. So if you set it at the highest, it spins the most water out, and at lower speeds your clothes will be wetter after the wash cycle.
I'm an immigrant without perfect Finnish too, but my machine is similar to yours. I always use the area on the right of the big dial that says valko-kirjopyykki. Of course the numbers are for water temperatures in celsius. I use 30 for colors, warmer for whites, etc.
Tehopesu-tahrat means power was-stains. I think the stuff on the left side of the dial is for delicates, etc. Villa means wool, and I think that setting is for things you'd hand wash.
Sorry, I'm not so sure about the buttons.
