Post by pippobaudo77 » Sun Dec 09, 2007 6:49 pm

Hello I am Dino and I live in Turku, I like running but i have seen that in winter is a bit difficult to run out. Because is sleepery and because is cold.
do you know any places in turku where i can run and is covered?

How do you manage in winter time to do running?

Thanks.

Spikey running shoes.... there are a couple of models that have spikes, but you can also get them put into normal running shoes (depending on the tread pattern). I got mine done at megasport, in Hel'

I don´t run, but my husband does, no matter what weather. That is, untill proper snow comes, then he skis. It is not slippery now when there is no ice, and when snow comes, it is not slippery either. He has normal joggging shoes, no spikes. And sports underwear with longjohns. On top of those a lined jogging suit. Plus a thin cotton "pipo" (hat) and gloves.

When it goes to -10° and lower he just adds a thick college sweater, and changes into woollen cap and thicker glowes. No matter how cold, he is sweaty when he comes back.

I think there used to be a indoor running track in the sports center in kupittaa park in turku, mind you it was a good few years since i lived in turku so it could well have changed

The indoor track at kupittaa is still there, just don't know how and when its available since I never use it. In anycase, with a little practice it doesn't matter if it's slippery outside

There are several walking/running paths around the town which you can conviniently check on here. Just zoom into where you live, and then in the "karttanäkymä" box change from "opaskartta" (guide map) --> to "ulkoilukartta" (outdoor recreation map) and all the available tracks in your area turn grey on the map.
