If foreigns come here it means no problem in communication. More people means communication will getting easer. Not only English. For example, many people can speak Russian even been from different countries.

This is Ok. All specialties are demanded here. Now, after Finland will easy up work permits for Ukraina and may be in future for Russia many cheap workers show up here. Unlikely, lack of language will be a problem for them.

We should really understand that currently there is shortage of workers here, and in future it will only grow. Soon, will be fewer people to work and it only hurts locals. I hope this forum will help to attract more people here.

Have we been reading the same forum? You are repeatedly trashed by people with exception of one or two persons.

Not only that, but this forum is filled with stories by people telling how difficult it has been to find employment.

You mean they communicate with one another and avoid contact with majority population? Now that is healthy and working solution if any!

Or not. Reality remains, Finland has 2 official languages. Neither is english or russian. No ability to conduct your business in either or both and you are severely handicapped.

Yes, many locals speak english. Does not mean they want to conduct their business in english. In fact, most prefer to use finnish (or swedish).

Apparently you have failed to notice the high unemployment?

There are need of workers in few special areas. Construction is least demanding area which right now is demanding workers more than are available. But as it is, construction is slowly slowing down. When that happens, foreigners get the boot by and large and even that industry becomes more finnish dominated.

And it does not change fact that inability to conduct your business fluently in local official languages is not going to help you. Not every piece of paper is available readily in english, not every civil servant speaks fluent english and so forth.

And because these papers are not in english and because majority of clients speak finnish or swedish as preferred language any customer related business is going to require fluency in one or both official languages.

You can try to dance around it as much as you want. No speaking local majority language is going to make you viable for hire only if nobody else is available. And if you are going to put your faith on THAT... Well, pathetic to be honest.

Ditto!

Shrecher, you're living in happy-la-la land..........

Please remember that a fact is one thing, backed up by sources and references, an opinion is something else entirely. I may be of the opinion that the moon is made of blue cheese and I can also stubbornly refuse to acknowledge other people's opinions to the contrary. However tightly I hold on to my opinion, the fact remains that regarding the nature of the moon, the facts speak otherwise.

In your experience, you hold your opinion to be true, as far as you know it to be so. The fact that many other people disagree with you could be that they are simply expressing different opinions, or that in fact their combined experience outweighs your singular experience.

Just something to think about..........

Kevin.

PS: hope you are not a small hairy beast that eats children.....and frequents the net.......

yep, I'm.

You try to proof I don't exist? Or hundreds foreign programmers don't exist? I live here 7+ years. I know less the 100 words in both state languages. I have no problems to communicate Finns.

Jeesus Christ. Thought I sometimes driveled bollocks on here

But hats off to you shrecher, it takes balls of steel to carry off that level of self-belief in the face of such massive odds.
Political correctness is the belief that it's possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

How the hell is that possible? i have lived here for 15 months and i can speak quite well, definitely not fluent or even close but i'm learning at a fast pace. I think if you plan to live in Finland for a long time or have done and you don't know or plan to learn to Finnish it is very ignorant and kind of arrogant for you to expect everybody to speak english with you.

That just shows his lack of respect for the country and the people where he is a guest.

Looks like you are way too fast on jumping to conclusions...Just because he is not yet able to communicate fluently in finnish despite living here for 7+ years doesn't indicate his disrespect for this country...
It would be better that you avoid personal comments about people who don't share your ideologies...simply because he happens to believe, pretty much like me, that getting a job in Finland without language proficiency isn't a herculean task and depends on various parameters which define failure and success for every individual...
Once again I request you to do away with your nagging attitude and try to provide some robust facts/references to back up your opinions
