Nope, these guys are... lunar antics.

According to Eili on the way home this evening the moon is made of cheese (from cow milk), so one assumes the cat is in the moon chasing the mice.

However Hello,Hello, Hello is quite tame compared to the Japanese english lesson.

Obviously the cat should have been on the moon, "in the moon" is nonsense. Guilty as charged, but I should like to plead extenuating circumstances m'lud. When I made that series I was an immigrant of three years standing making his first tv-series and I had no authority whatsoever. David and I got our orders from a panel of about four English teachers, Finns I mean, who laid down which words we could and could not use. For the whole series we were only given less than twenty words, I can no longer remember the exact figure.
"In" was acceptable but "on" was considered too challenging for our five-year old audience. So we persuaded ourselves that since one talks about "the man in the moon" we could say "the cat's in the moon", which of course is absolute bollocks. The series' graphic designer Seppo Lindqvist tried to help out with the logo of a cat "in" the moon, but it was still bollocks. I can't remember what happened when the lift eventually got to the sixth floor and that was the moon - I'm sure we didn't then exclaim "we're in the moon!" but I can't remember how we resolved it. I mean we're going back thirty- five years, which frankly I would prefer not to do.

I only registered to post this comment, because someone alerted me to the conversation, but I don't intend to be active and won't necessarily reply to replies. Evenin' all. Mind how you go. Neil Hardwick

:ochesey:

We heard it from the source.

Thank you Neil (if you should come back to read the replies) and thank you for your contribution to Finnish pop culture.

Yes, I do remember them as well... scary! IIRC there were also some animated and puppet sequences...

And more importantly... I seem to have a vague recollection of a sequel to that Hello hello hello series - featuring an old professor and some kind of a bath tub time machine...?

Wasn't one sequence of "Tubular Bells" used as the theme music in the latter series?

I think it is still was absolutely brilliant... well, at least from the point of me age 5. Not saying you made a flash(i)er reer with Reinikainen & al.

In "Alright?Alright!" I think you are quite giving back on the word restrictions breaking the 4th wall in one of the episodes where the characters get into a tiff "We're not allowed to say that - its too difficult" Now if only there would be a series as good teaching Finnish to foreigners...

Anyhow

Oh yes, but that was in color, and not quite as monty-pyhonesque ;)

Can't remember it too well - but when I first heard "Tubular Bells" (somewhere in the late 80's, I'm from Häme you know!) and this theme suddenly jumped out of the speakers... I knew I'd heard it before somewhere but WHERE, dammit...! I had to wait for a day or two until the answer came back from the subconscious

Hank have you found any pics of, or info on the latter? My quick Google search came to nothing. I suppose that sequel was not on the Kielipuoli potilas dvd? Tiksis, tiksis.
