Where abouts in NZ are you? I might be able to lend you some advice (having married a Finnish girl), but we settled in NZ and had kids.
Have been to Finland a couple of times (and will probably go back for more visits), but I think you're best bet is to settle in NZ (better weather) and it's a 27 hour flight to visit the mother-in-law (bonus x10).

hey I am also from New Zealand and moved to Finland 3 months ago woth my Finnish boyfriend. I found the best way to get here was on a working holiday visa (easiest visa to get) I was told that when i get a job here I can apply for a work visa, or as already said if youve been with your girlfriend long enough u can apply under partnership. At the moment I am staying on the working holiday visa, and found a job for Xmas, however Im finding it pretty hard to find another permenent job!!! my boyfriends and I have decided that after a year we will move back to New Zealand as it is way to hard for foreigners in Finland, and even he (a Finn) cant really stand it here anymore. Its a whole lot easier for foreigners to go to New Zealand than to Finland! If u still decide to come, try it out, u might like it better, but be warned its completly different to New Zealand, which I thought I wanted, but now I just cant wait to be back in New Zealand.
So yeah if you come, I would say definately apply for a working holiday visa.
Hope it helped. If you need any more help let me know.

SURVEY: New Zealanders’ expectations about their standards of living are the gloomiest in 16 years, a pre-Christmas survey has found. Research company UMR said one in four people expect 2008 will be worse than 2007, with about the same number also saying their standard of living will be worse next year.
Beware of the Greener Grass, as any wise sheep (oxymoron eh) will tell you, littlezwerg, :D

actually, just read this page,

http://www.rpnz.com.au/news/

but then again if you're going back to buy a shack somewhere north of Whangarei - then ignore it - grab your surfboard, trade in some fish for some petrol and 'go off!'

You do your own homework now. Does it require higher intelligence to move to Finland? The ones that can't figure out what an embassy is, or navigate a sticky at the "studying in Finland" section do think so.

The thing is you *sound* as if you're being dense and lazy.

So, answer yourself (for the benefit of the next Kiwi with HBS) as to
a) where to find the info on the working-holiday
b) where to find the information on the polytechnics

And then if you have specific questions, we'll start pelting you with penguins ;)
