you seem like an expert, especially since you categorize all the vitamins into a same group... which is incorrect. There's water soluble vitamins and oil soluble vitamins. C-vitamins are water soluble, so basically you can't OD on vitamin C, as long as you keep your body hydrated. This why people who think they a coming up with a cold, tend to take vitamin C many times over the RDA. B-vitamins are oil soluble, so those are the ones you can OD with.Kupcake wrote:Iseult - the reason you can't buy vitamin a in such strong potency (300% of regular dose) is because it is proven to be toxic in high doses. Chronic toxicity of vitamin is characterised by the following symptoms: severe liver enlargement and damage, anemia, fetal abnormalities (pregnant women must be very careful), menstrual irregularities, extreme fatigue, liver damage, injury to brain and nervous system. Vitamin a is a fat soluble vitamin and is stored in the body, ie the excess is not excreted, it continues to build up. Personally and professionally, i feel that it is irresponsible for a company to supply a product at 300% of the recommended daily dosage. You should get professional advice with nutritional supplements, because you also need to calculate how much vitamin a you are getting your food too.
Maximum recommended dosage for vitamin a is 10,000IU. 300% of that is 3,000,000IU. Toxicity levels commence at 50,000IU. BE CAREFUL!!
btw, isn't 300% of 10.000 30.000 as it's 3 times the original amount? Wouldn't that then make the 300% dose safe according to you?
