Never heard of it... but it's bound to be way behind anything offered by HUT, TUT, LUT or ÅA.decoy77 wrote:Hi,
Looks like i got admission to the Metropolia (Merge of Stadia and EWTEK) for their Masters programme.
Any details about the university, recognition and the value of the degree ,if awarded, would be great to know.
thanks in advance!

These polytechnics' Master courses are all in all rather a "new" thing, they've been around for a few years only. Mostly those degrees are "continuing education" courses for those already in working life, hence also the three-year work experience requirement.decoy77 wrote:Hmm.. its pretty new course i guess and not much info about that anywhere.

oh ok.
So its typically tailored for those who works and wants to learn more and get a degree. and i could see that for these degrees the classes are supposed to be in the evenings or week ends. So looks like a good option for working people.

Which you need to remember it is geared for people already in Finland - with a job. It might not go over the thresholds needed for a student residence permit as you get one for full time studying. And you can only work 20hrs/week on a student residence permit.. you're supposed to study.

Yeah i know that and its clearly mentioned that the university will not help in getting a permit, i think i read this.
I am already in Finland working for a Finnish software company and i have around 5 years experience. I was just hoping to get some information on these universities (i got confused the difference between the university and polytechnic) and the merit of the courses and of course the value of the certificates.
Thanks and regards

OK, then the polytechnic masters would be "up your alley" especially if you can convince your boss that you can do your thesis "on company time". The HUT masters is more like full-time studying.
The thing is theres a lot of people asking the same question who are planning to come to Finland from some far-away country, so they need a bit of reality check as they don't read the "small print".
Basically, the "merit of the certificates" is if you apply for a government "office" and they are asking for "higher diploma" then both the polytechnic/UAS and university degrees are accepted. University is more theoretical, polytecnic/UAS is more implementation -oriented.
