Prepaid SIM that can accept calls from Canada

Post by malachi_north » Sat Nov 15, 2008 5:23 pm

I currently have DNA prepaid, but it won't accept any calls from Canada. This is a slight issue, as my entire family is in Canada (I am the only one in Europe) and it'd be nice for them to call me. For the last two weeks I just thought they were being cheap buggers, but it turns out they couldn't get through.

So I phoned DNA, and told them that no one from home could get through, on either a cell phone or landline. The lady said that yes, Canada is not a guaranteed service.

....

Apparently this is on their website, but I could not locate it. I could only find (through the help of my Finnish partner) that they have a partnership agreement with Roger's Canada for cheaper rates.

My question to you all, is do you know of a prepaid carrier that can accept calls from Canada? my partner's Elisa contract phone does, but I'm not sure about the prepaid variety. I don't have a credit rating in Finland, so would prefer prepaid. :)

Thanks a bunch!

Sorry to bump, but I need to get a new card today. Does anyone have any issues with Sonera or Elisa/Kolumbus?

Or know if they can't get calls from all countries?

I have Tele and have no problems with calls to Canada and Canada phoning me. We used to have DNA and found them to be sort of sleazy. First they said our reception would be great for the cottage and it wasn't. In this modern age we all need phones and we had to get a "cottage phone" with Sonera service to keep in touch. Then after waiting to get over the agreement they kept using tricks to try and keep us as customers. Then the best part, after that they tried to get our business back and we explained why we are not interested because of the poor reception, there reply was on the phone "Thats no problem, we'll just send a technician over there to turn the antenna to your cottage's direction and you'll have great reception.
But even then the DNA worked with Canada. Just get another sim card I guess.

Ah, thanks for the advice, Matt and Cory! I'm going to try Elisa today, and hope that it works. I don't mind that the prepaid doesn't work when I'm not in Finland (though sending and receiving sms with the DNA prepaid worked out of country), but not being able to receive calls from Canada when in Finland is a bit ridiculous.

The DNA reception story does sound quite sleazy. :/

ETA: the last time I used skype with my Mom was was quite amazed she could see me on the screen all of a sudden and wondered how I'd recorded the video so my lips matched with what I was saying now. Some days the phone is just easier... :P

In this case I would go for Sonera, they are expensive but they work anywhere in Finland(prepaid ones).I am sure with Sonera you can get it to work. But why don't you use Skype.I call my Family in Brazil for free and also we do some videocall. too.You can even install it to your mobile phone.
Check this link, its all about prepaid

I got a Kolumbus card yesterday, and it works. :)

I do use Skype regularly with my friends. My elder relatives, however, do not use Skype and do not understand how it works. It's the same when my Mom wants to call on a break from work and she's in the car or something. Skype is fine when we're all at home on the PC, but they are used to phones, and in an emergency, I'd rather know that my phone can accept a call from Canada, whether it be landline or mobile. :)
