which new S-Etukortti?

Post by maxxfi » Thu Sep 10, 2009 10:58 am

Hello,

as S-group customer/member, I get periodically the reports on the astonishing amount
of money I collected through their bonus system :D
With the report, it regularly comes also the invitation to get one of the their new S-Etukortti.

My situation is that I have my own (bank) credit card, which I use mainly for online and bigger
purchases, and a traditional bank card (without chip), for the everyday shopping.
As S-group member, I have the old Etukortti, which entitles just to collect bonus points.

Now there comes this offer of three new Visa Etukortti cards: Debit, Credit, and Debit+Credit,
with their S-Tili account.

I don't feel a need to get another (bank) account, and I guess my bank will provide me with a debit card
when it will be needed.
What would you do, or maybe you went already through this, how did you decide about it?
Should I just keep the cards as they are now until they are valid or would it be beneficial to try one of those?

IIRC, you get some more bonus when paying with S-group's own card, also you only need one card to pay then. I won't bother until they stuff one through mailbox. If you mainly use S-group's shop, then it might make sense, but then you must take care of two accounts or shift to use only S-bank's one, unless using credit?

In the end, it is your decision. Two minor points in favor:

You'd get a 0.5% additional 'bonus' if you use your S-group card for paying (debit or credit) instead of cash or some other card. So that would be another startling stream of revenue for your account.

They might charge for it though. Handelsbank for example (which is one of the few other banks that have so far offered a free account + online banking + pankkikortti combination) will be starting to charge for their debit cards.

Well, as the banks may start charging for debit cards, so can S-group, as they nowhere write
that their S-tili will stay forever free. Actually, I vaguely remember that one of those options,
probably the credit card, was initially offered as free only for the first year.

The extra 0.5% bonus (which basically means that out of 100 euros of shopping I can have couple of
candies free :) ) to me doesn't compensate for the hassle of e.g. transferring periodically money from
my main bank account to the S-tili account, so I think for the time being I won't bother doing much.
