I read the article, and it's a pile of utter rubbish, and huge tracts of it pi**ed me off. Firstly some it is incorrect and downright poorly researched. The "Slovenian" (they prefer Slovene by the way) geneticist was actually a psychiatrist with an interest in the genetics of suicide, his name was Andrej Marusic, died of cancer couple of years ago, and he was trying to explain the high suicide rate in the Prekmurje region of Slovenia (bit closest to Hungary) based on a theory of a so called 'J curve" going from the Baltics down to Hungary, taking in part of Slovenia, leaving out the Mediterranean part which has the lowest suicide rate in the country. I knew of him, knew him, and went to his lectures on the subject, and he was not pinpointing anything about Finns, he was interested in Slovenes (duhhhhhh).
Regarding not telling the name of the baby? Great idea, better then some cultures where the sex and name are known to all and sundry before the poor sprog has even left the uterus, and the idiot parents are even displaying 3D ultrasoud photos to the neighbours. A bit of decorum around the whole issue is badly needed and the Finns have it quite bloody right. Besides a bit of contemplation on the name of a child might prevent all the stupid names going around. If I hear Wayne one more time ................
Silence - sooooo sick of this old chestnut. Based on my observations, Finns talk amongst themselves more or less as much as anyone else. If they keep themselves to themselves on buses etc., so what? What is the big deal here, I never got it. Saying that people meet for coffee and say nothing, or little, well, I never experienced that, and it's nonsense and total exageration for a newspaper article. Makes good press. Bloke sounds like an idiot.
