Of course, the Aviomiespalvelu is a brilliant marketing idea to sell the handcraft services of a single man... and he's created a business model for other people to work!
Many foreigners and unemployed Finnish would like to start their own business, but on their own they can't, because it's too much effort, money, it's hard... But if we gather together, we can create entrepreneurship platforms for many people, with an acceptable effort...
And I tell you, tax in Finland is not that high for small companies. Actually, it's lower than say, Spain... it's totally posible to deal with it.
Calling all the unemployed in Helsinki to work!!!
Re: Calling all the unemployed in Helsinki to work!!!
I think its a good idea, I am interested too. But we should first figure out the practical issues and details.
First of all, how competitive should our price be? What about the profit for our cooporation itself? How do we divide the profits? So is everybody a shareholder in this company?

Hello Antar!
"If we get together, we could create something like a services company, offering cleaning, babysitting, cooking! (there is such a big need for cooks!) with foreign countries specialties, PR services, advertising, international consultancy"
I last year set up my own company (http://www.finngo.com), offering International Business development services to Finnish companies operating in the Cleantech sector with an interest in foreign markets, especially France and the UK. I did it because I knew for a fact that there is a market for such services, and that my skills can benefit some Finnish companies. I also I have connection in the industry, which is of great help. Part of the potential success of my business is based on my sales and marketing international background, cross cultural skills and Engineering experience. In other words, I am not only turning the fact that I am a foreigner to my advantage, advertising my global profile to Finnish companies willing to Internationalize, but I also have a double competence (technical, sales & marketing) to play with. Although I can easily differentiate myself and people can see the value of contracting my services, I am yet to get a real and interesting deal, simply because this takes time, especially in a country where you don't handle the language very well. What I am aiming at is:
Make sure you really really differentiate and niche yourselves (self), especially if your Finnish is not there yet. In my opinion, being able to offer foreign countries specialities is not enough of a differentiation. For some positions, this may work, but for others, I just can't see why a client would contract your services rather than someone's else.
Don't get me wrong, I value your idea, and am only sharing my short experience of being an entrepreneur in Finland. That would be interesting to chat in a non virtual world. Positiveness is the way forward!
All the best!
Jerome.

Hi Jerome!
Your background seems to be quite similar to mine, but possibly you have more experience. I also aimed at being a "commercial engineer"...
but anyways, two ideas are taking shape:
- Language teachers promoting platform company.
- Publishing English language magazine or social newspaper.
Though possibly, the first one is easier to start...

Tomorrow's edition of HS will explore a network of exchange of services in Kumpula set by a dutch guy. There's an article here, and as expected the first commenter goes
on about taxes (there are none being paid...)
You can translate it with google, I am betting that this will be online on the International Edition by Tuesday afternoon...
