Course of finnish culture and language in Finland

Post by patty12785 » Sun Jun 27, 2010 6:45 am

Hi everyone, I’d like to know some information to help me answering some questions. If you could provide me assistance, I would be so grateful.
First of all, I’m from South America and I want to study in Finland, I had my entrance examinations for a university in Finland in April 2010, but unfortunately it didn’t go well and I have not been accepted. :(

However now I am wondering if I could study a course of Finnish culture and language in Finland, prior to apply again, in 2011 to study in a university there, I have been searching for courses with those characteristics and that last for a year in Finland, because I think to study a new language requires time, and study Finnish only for 3 months wouldn’t be enough for me, but I haven’t found anything or most of info is in Finnish only, and in my country it’s impossible to find such courses. :(

I have read in the migri site that “Residence permits are not generally issued for studies at folk high schools, Christian colleges or similar institutions where studies do not lead to a degree or vocational qualification”; but I also asked the same question to the consul of Finland in my country and he told me “it is not possible to get a residence permit on the basis of studying a course of Finnish language only, but if you additionally study Finnish culture and history of Finland ,you maybe could get it” :)

So my question would be , do you know any course with those characteristics? Or could you give me an advice related to this topic.
Sorry for my mistakes in English since I’m not a native English speaker.

Thank you for you help and your kind responses.

"Maybe" is the same maybe as in maybe you get accepted to the university. There really isn't much of those kind of courses available unless we talk about immigrant integration courses, some short summer ones but they are already taking place.

I don't get your logic. How would studying Finnish language and culture help you to pass the univeristy entrance examinations (which I assume are in English and nothing to do with Finnish language/culture)? Which faculty were you trying for?

So if you can not pass a polytechnic test in English? Sorry, the Finnish test is harder...
