Official translation of the documents needed
By any chance does any of you know of a company in Helsinki where they can provide official translations from Russian into German (not Russian-Finnish-Finnish-German)? I need to have some documents translated and notarized, and probably apostille will be needed as well.

I don't know of such a service, but what exactly do you mean by 'official'? Can anyone else other than the maker of the original document vouch for a translation being accurate? Surely the notary cannot take any responsibility of the content or the accuracy of the translation. Making official copies of originals I can understand, but (effectively) having the content changed in the process, it's a different thing altogether.

I mean the place where they make copies, translate and notarize the documents. Otherwise, I would have translated everything myself
If I translate these and then come to an office and request to notarize, no one will agree to do that.

There is in Finland a profession of "authorized translator" that has passed the tests and like a doctor has a stamp to put under their translation.FinnGuyHelsinki wrote:I don't know of such a service, but what exactly do you mean by 'official'? According to this company you can not get official translations directly form foreign to foreign in Finland. Something about Hague Convention...lucent wrote:By any chance does any of you know of a company in Helsinki where they can provide official translations from Russian into German (not Russian-Finnish-Finnish-German)? Will you go with Russian -> Finnish -> German, then?
Or will you find a company in Germany that can do Russian -> German?
By the way, since Swedish is an official language of Finland, it would seem to me that you should be able to get Russian -> Swedish -> German, which seems like it would be less likely to introduce noise.

As he persisted, I was obliged to tootle him gently at first and then, seeing no improvement, to trumpet him vigorously with my horn.

Russian -> German
Sent the docs to my friend in St. Pet., she took them to the local agency. This turned out to be quicker and less expensive
