You can be unemployed _if_ you can prove your livelihood somehow. Unemployed and unable to show how to earn living => denial.

Kiitos
If by not having a proper job you mean unemployed. Some have been granted citizenship while being unemployed and others haven't.
If you mean you have a job you dont think is proper then I wouldnt worry too much.
I also believed the same but got confused with some replies

Hi Upphew,
Ofcourse! That's logic !! he will be presenting some proof of unemployment (This what I mean't) benefits. We are here talking about being unemployed receiving benefits not a gangster !!! With no proof of income or illegal income.
So to point it out clear YES HE CAN BE COMPLETLY UNEMPLOYED, BUT WITH A PROOF OF SOME KIND OF UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS

Hello Friends,
For information which might be usefull:
I have applied in the end of May 2012 and got a decision on the beginning
Of December which is about 6 months processing.
I hope this info helps national passport holder applicants to estimate the processing
time for accurate applications.
Best Regards and Best Wishes for all.

@razaaqc: Congratulation!
By the way where do you live? Is there a difference based on your location? By this I mean if you live in Helsinki there are many applications, more time to process them you get citizenship next year .... if you live in Nuorgam, probably no applications you will get the citizenship next day .... so probably there is no local migri whom will check your application.
I'm not sure how the applications are processed inside police/migri but this is the way I think I understood it:
1. Submit application to Police
2. Police checks it/your background (here I guess takes some times and the Helsinki-Nuorgam scenario will make a difference + clear application, national passport and things like this? maybe?)
3. If application good Police send's it to Migri, maybe a central place where all applications are sent and analyzed ... ?
4. Migri checks the application and make's a decision yes/no
5. Applicant informed

No, you end up in the same queue no matter where you apply:

In the same queue when arrives at Migri but before that, when is submitted at the police station, the location where you submit it will make a difference like Helsinki vs. Nuorgam (I guess?).

Has there been a change in document requirements, esp. in regards to papers required from tax office? I remember reading here people talking about piles of tax papers... in the application form it reads,
Maahanmuuttovirasto saa verottajalta tiedot verotettavista ansiotuloista.
According to the form, pakolliset selvitykset are:
- passport
- yki testi certificate
- past and present toimeentulo.
If maahanmuuttovirasto gets tax info from tax office......what documents anymore required?

Someone must have called the migri after reading my post that the forms from
this link have now been taken out. However, youtube video using that form is still there to confuse us!

Terve,
I sent my application on 10.12.2012 and received the decision yesterday 12.04.2013 ... pretty much 4 months it took with an online application.
I am really proud and all my respect to Finnish people and to Finland. This country has gave me so much and I will never forget it!
Kiitos and all the best to all of you!

You can have other legal income or source of funds that does not show in tax records. Also, if they see only the final information then currently they'd have only 2011 figures and older available.

im 20 years old and im australian.
im going to helsinki by christmas 2013, if all goes to plan.
I have been investigating weather i am eligible to apply for a Finnish citizenship.
I am planing on apply for a 12 month working holiday visa and exploring the country for the first 5 to 6 months before looking for work. as i would love to stay in Finland.
My question is do i have to have a residency permit and a home in finland before i can apply for citizenship?, and do i have to apply and successfully receive my citizenship all before im 22 years old?????
any information would be gratefully appreciated.

Unless you already have Finnish parents or something like that, you can not apply for Finnish citizenship until you've been living here for several years (or rather, you can apply and get a no). You also need to pass a language test. Thinking about getting Finnish citizenship before even moving here is getting too far ahead of yourself.
You can read more here:
http://www.migri.fi/finnish_citizenship
You are probably confusing citizenship and having a residence permit. You can read more about getting a more permanent residence permit at the Migri site I linked to above.
