Thanks Geek5354 for a good opinion! We are all biased in some way, so that doesn't discredit the value of your thoughts at all, I am sure many think like you.

I have to comment on a couple of things here though. However, this is my own opinion:
- if you go to a career counsellor, the counsellor does NOT do a good job in Finland if you get "the factory-made materials" (well, maybe them too to give some initial information for the ones who are completely clueless) and a ready model for how to do your CV and cover letter (which I know that happens often e.g. at the career offices of the universities. So wrong. Unfortunately the ones working in these offices often have no background in recruiting).

In my opinion a good counsellor helps you build up your profile so that it looks like you but enhances those strengths that are typically most interesting in the eyes of the employer. This also means taking away all the unnecessary stuff, all the not-believable stuff, all the lame things everybody says. Also, a good counsellor gives you the tools to help your self in the job search, that is, find all the sources you can use in your job search. My own ideas and connections are limited, my work is to get you to create your own connections and to get your ideas going.

It definitively is useful, if you have a partner, who has good ties. Definitively worth using them! However, not every Finns is good at looking for a job in Finland either, and not every Finn has those ties to assist their partners/ friends with (and not every friend is somebody I would hire...). However, they will know what the culture is like, which is a great bonus.

Your opinions have been very valuable, thank you everybody.

However, there will be no such services offered by me as apparently it is illegal to charge for the kind of services I was thinking about. It is good to always take a look at the law too :)

I'm from Spain and I'm living in Espoo since 1 month ago....So I think I know (for example) the spanish expats who come to Finland to find a job because this is my situation.

Honestly, I think you have good intentions, but I wouldn't pay for that type of help....

I'd pay, for example, to someone who get me some job interviews or even if someone find me a job, I'd pay a percentage of my salary during X time, etc, etc.

In Spain we say: "looking for a job is a full time job"....I want to say that when we come here to find a job....we have spent thousands of hours looking for a job in our country.....So, with all the respect, I think that many expats know how to look for a job....

I'm talking about spanish people, but I think this can be apply to almost every expat. You will find two kinds of situations:

a) People who come here with his university degree and a medium/low level of english( My situation)
b) People who come here without any kind of degree and without knowledge of english or maybe a low level of english.

In my opinion, the problem for expats in Finland is that if your case is a) and you have a degree related with IT, maybe you can find a job.....Any other case.....If you don't speak finnish is very very complicated to find a job.

Maybe if you are in b) situation, could be interesting that someone help you with a good CV/resume in English but honestly, no matters if you are looking for job cleaning a house, as a nanny, or as a waiter....All non academic jobs here requires speak finnish.
