Dag Noortje. Afgaande op je naam, denk ik dat je NL-talig bent (of Brusselaar en dan tweetalig? ). In ieder geval: op deze startkabel vind je alvast heel wat info:

http://finlandsite.nl/finlandsite/finla ... ge.php?146

Especially if you fon't want anything special like French language school the kids will get placed in the local one.
Why do you think she'd want French classes? Because she's Belgian? That is like supposing all Finns speak Swedish. Big mistake my friend :D

Why do you think she'd speak Flemish? Because her username is Noortje?

Yes I would think the name Noortje has a very "Dutch-speaking" feel to it. Dutch, not Flemish my friend. But if Noortje happened to be French-speaking, allright with me you know... just pointing out that assuming that Belgians automatically speak French is wrong (after all, the majority of the Belgians speak Dutch) and that's why I made the analogy with someone who would assume all Finnish citizens are Swedish speaking, which, to put it mildly, is something that can drive the average Finn to absolute bloodthirstyness.

Political correctness is the belief that it's possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

Hei,

though this topic is already a bit older, I want to say something to it! :)

Where do I start? My experience as a EU is that it´s not that easy to just come here (To Finland) and stay. First of all is it very difficult to get into KELA if your husband can´t prove a long term contract. You will get a KELA card if you work here in Finland for more than 4-6 months?! , no question....but your husband have to work at least 2 years in the same company to get a KELA card without a due date. Which means, if your husbands loose the job within the first 2 years, you will be basically in "deep !"#¤%" cause KELA has strict rules. So you should have a clear thought of the risk of moving back to your home country if your husband loose his job before those 2 years!

Also it isn´t easy to get benefits as EU Member, been there done that! Even though I have a permanent residence permit and a signed Integration plan, I didn´t get any cent from KELA though its written in their own laws that if you have a Integration plan, that you will get that Labor Market Subsidy money during the 3 years of the Integration plan IF you follow the plan which is made by the TE Toimisto. Of course there are always lucky ones who don´t have any problem, but don´t count on that. Be prepared that you have to live only with the income of your husband plus that lapsilisä.....

If you wouldn´t have kids I would say: Just risk that and try....but because of your kids I hope you think long enough before making a decision. Your kids will be the ones who will suffer the most if the plan doesn´t work out as you wished for. Always keep that in your mind. I came to Finland as Au Pair almost 6 years ago but it wasn´t registered at the Register Office. We arranged it that we said I would live with the family as a family member and then I didn´t have any problems with registering me here. Usually they want to see your bank account or at least something where is listed all your saved money cause they want to make sure that you can pay for yourself at least for 3 years. And I think you have to have at least 1000€ per month and this 36 times make 36000€ (Per person!) which you have on the side to get permanent residence permit. If your husband has a work contract for about 4-23 months you will get only a temporary permit during the time the contract is running....Only if your husband last for longer than 25 months, you can ask from the register office to change your status from temporary to permanent. Thats how they explained me once. I could be wrong or lets say the worker could have told me wrong, but it isn´t that easy to just move to a new country. And with kids you shouldn´t just "risk" cause your kids will be the ones who suffer the most as I said already above.

As for me: I had to go back to my home country for a while cause of financial problems since KELA didn´t pay me during a Integration language course but I came back here with only a small bag a few years ago and this was the best thing I could have done, cause it was a prove enough for KELA that I mean it serious with learning the language and building my life here. I finally got the KELA card after I came back....But the difference is: I don´t have kids, so for me was it easy to decide spontaneous since I didn´t have any responsibility for a child or anything. Like I´ve said, you should think more than only twice....:)

Everything I wrote here is only my own experience, I´m not an expert! But don´t believe everything what is written on the KELA page, they decide by their own rules. Even Finns have a lot of problems with KELA!

Terveisin,
- Kerttu
