It means January 2024! XD I’m just looking at the months and years at this point, not the days. Sorry if it wasn’t clear.hellofinland23 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 26, 2024 7:38 pm''hese are then people that applied in January 24 and getting answers already.'' Where did you find that info that, those with diary on 24/01/2024 got decision already. The latest one who posted it here getting decision is on 17/01/2024?EllisPhoenix wrote: ↑Sat Oct 26, 2024 12:48 pmI'm the same, waiting 24 months, from EU, no missing documents or requirements issues. But I am self employed and travel often for work (well within the required limits). After lot of reading in this forum I understood that there are different baskets even into the same queue.Scotabroad wrote: ↑Sat Oct 26, 2024 11:29 am
I'm the Jan 2023 person and no, I'm from western Europe and fully documented etc. No idea why it's taking so long.
(Sorry I just noticed you were only asking the 28+ months people! But I still feel 21 months so far is ridiculously long in my case...)
9-25 months group:
Very straightforward applications are processed fast as they can be done mostly automatically and by any employee, starting 9 months after application. These are then people that applied in January 24 and getting answers already.
Applications that are "normal" but with something to be checked (like mine - they want to check the trips) go into a slower queues as only a limited number of employees can check them (max 25 months wait at the moment).
Up to 30 months group:
Applications of people that came to Finland without permit in advance, have no passport, are refugees, or very peculiar cases waiting for specific documents. Maybe even less employees have the qualifications to process these so they need more time.
Copy pasting some things people wrote in the past in here (I saved useful infos in a file while reading):
"Recently I wrote an email asking about the different baskets/queues and the process of applications, staff mentioned in the reply that there are different baskets, and applications are assigned to different baskets depending on how much clarification and consideration the application requires with the help of automated check."
"When a person assigned to a "long queue", they are assigned to a specific Senior employer. There are only several of these Senior employers, so our waiting time is very long. But some employers work faster, some go on vacation (and then the whole queue is on pause). Cases do not go from one employer to another."
Only senior employees can make a negative decision apparently.
Is it fair they they do this withouth transparency and without following the cronological order of applications with the same grounds? No.
Is there something we can do about it? Also no.![]()

If you came as refugee your waiting time around 31 months according to migri. I came as special expert, my max waiting time now is 25 months.Sergo wrote: ↑Sat Oct 26, 2024 2:16 pmI did not write to the general group, but I answer your question, I came here with a civilian passport from my country, but I did not have an invitation and received refugee status on the basis of this, I requested an application for citizenship. And what was your status when you applied for citizenship?

By the way, I thought to share this, I had recently discussion with lawyer, and he told me that if you have serious speeding tickets your application for citezenship can be rejected. Serious, I mean, you exceeded more that 20 km/h and this is treated as crime in Finland, or perhaps (Im gessing) if you have to many small driving finws.

Re: Applying for Citizenship 2024
Well put. I understand your exasperation with the repeated questions about status, etc. Processing time for me was 24 months. Came to Finland with all the required documents. Application did not go into processing until 23rd month. Identity firmly established. Self-employed, so additional questions once application went into processing.No_doo wrote: ↑Sat Oct 26, 2024 6:57 pmI am really so tired of this question. We are all waiting and no one of us knows on what basis does Migri process our applications.
This is the last time I am gonna mention this here, because I am fed up with these assumptions.
I came here with a passport and I still have my national passport, of course I renewed it when it was the time. Also I came with a student residence permit B, and then I changed it to A when I found work after my graduation.
To cut the story short, I am not a refugee, and I have a national passport and my country is not on the list or whatever it is called.
Does migri assign us to long queues? YES
On which basis? I DUNNO and if I knew, I would have let everyone here know as well.
Please don't make the assumptions that people are refugrees of what so ever. The waiting is stressful and terrible and no one knows why do they assign us to long queues, even though we think that our applications are straightforward. So no one knows! Even I went to a lawyer and they have checked my application, all what they could say is wait and wait. And I have asked migri employee when I visited to renew my residence permit, they have checked my application and said that everything is in order and I have to wait. So please, everyone here wait and don't make assumptions about others.
Good luck everyone and wishing speedy decision for everyone!
Did the process take long from my point of view? Yes and no. If you look at citizenship processes in other EU countries for example, two years is not exceptionally long. And, the bar for access to Finnish citizenship is not overly high compared to other European countries. Check out the requirements in Switzerland and Austria for example, and then compare with here.
Basically, people are impatient while they're waiting. I was at times, but I consoled myself with the fact that citizenship is nice to have, but not a must (for the majority of applicants).
Re: Applying for Citizenship 2024
Thank you, that is well articulated. I understand that the bar for the citizenship here is very easy and I agree with everything you have said. But I needed to clarify that no one understands on what basis Migri assigned our applications to certain queues. Even me and some others whom I know, came with residence permits, and have work and well established identity as you mentioned. But yeah, the waiting is not nice at all.Auringon_kukka wrote: ↑Sun Oct 27, 2024 12:17 pmWell put. Re: Applying for Citizenship 2024
Hey guys, I have a question that I don’t know if this is strange or not.
My application went to stage 2 in processing last Thursday, but when I look at the log of my application on enterfinland it says that my application went to “in processing” the same day as I got my diary number, even though I have the email from 24.10. saying it processing started and when I checked it before that it said waiting for processing
.
So my log is like
15.1.2024 - submit application
18.1.2024 - diary number generated
18.1.2024 - started processing (this is wrong?)
19.7.2024 - sent additional pay/travel info
20.8.2024 - sent more travel updates
I think I will give them some more time before contacting migri, but I think this is strange and was wondering if this is normal for the “Hakemuksesi tapahtumat” to show like this?

If I recall, my log showed the same anomaly. My application went into processing in July 2024, but the log gave the Step 2 date as August 2022 (!), when the diary number was created.BringMePulla wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2024 9:57 amHey guys, I have a question that I don’t know if this is strange or not.

It seems like all of us that move to stage 2 and don’t get a quick decision get worried for no reason

Re: Applying for Citizenship 2024
It is quite normal to have such a log. I had the same when my application was in progress. The only good reason for this could be that they do the necessary checks in the background while it is still waiting for processing otherwise as people report having decisions in 9 mins, it's impossible to do all those checks in 9 mins. Goodluck, hopefully, you will not need to contact them and receive the decision soon.BringMePulla wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2024 9:57 amHey guys, I have a question that I don’t know if this is strange or not.

Btw did you finally get your decision? And if so, how long were you in stage 2 for? I remember seeing you waiting still on stage 2 from a few weeks ago.
Re: Applying for Citizenship 2024
It took me around 2 weeks as I have an upcoming work-related travel for around 2 months next year. My employer while making necessary arrangements for travel informed KELA and the pension office that I am going abroad for work reasons. Migri got to know from there and asked for supplementary info: will I come back, what are the objectives of this trip etc. Once I responded it took a few days for the decision to be served.BringMePulla wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2024 12:13 pmThank you for your response! I am wondering about filling the application form. There is a question "Olen tehnyt muuttoilmoituksen Suomen viranomaisille kaikista muutoistani Suomessa tai Suomesta ulkomaille." Does anyone know exactly what this means? I just checked my application again and saw that I answered "No" for this question.
I hope this will not impact the processing time.
Good luck to everyone.
By the way, it seems quiet recently, is there anyone receiving decision with diary number after 15th?
Good luck everyone,
I hope your application will be started soon with positive decision. I just got decision today at 11am while my application was started processing last Wednesday (6.30pm).
I just sent the additional information regarding the answer for the question above and explained that I noticed DDV about all my moves.
Some background info :
- came to Finland 1st Dec 2019, visa A, doing PhD
- from southeast Asian country
- currently having 2 jobs at the same time (full time PhD and zero contract hour in a company)
- diary number created on 19th Jan 2024 with number 43x
Good luck to everyone
