I guess in an ideal world that everything we needed done by tomorrow would actually have been done yesterday.
We don't, so why stress about things outwith our control.

There are reasons, often not good ones, why things are as they are, we need always to choose our battles wisely. Little point in trying to bite the ankle of a giant. If he notices, he will stamp on you, if he does not you wasted your energy and in either case, biting him will not make him your friend! :)

Hey man!!!

I tell you... The stuff you wrote has given quite an insight into the intricacies of our daily life. I agree with you & your philosophy might change the way I look at life...

Of late I had been quite depressed when things went wrong... I used to run away from things in which I thought I would be a loser... I always would want that things should go in the way I would like... I know that this is not sportsmanship.... but somehow I was doing it that way  I dont know when you get more success your will power to take more risk decreases... At least in my case... :?

Your message I will try to imbibe in my daily activities... And try to become the same playful adventerous kid I used to be...

btw I admire your way of looking to life & would like to be in touch with you.

OK, in Finland you will find a lot of pessimism: "It will not work". I for example always wait for the worst, the pessimist also gets happy surprises. But i also have many pokers in the fire. When one poker comes hot, then it is the time to hit it... You always have to have a "plan B". And in Finland you'll see a lot of "I'll do it myself" people who think buying services is frivolous. And they have this Finnish "perseverence takes man through grey stone" attitude sometimes.
Cheers, Hank W.

Hi Dhiraj,
This is Joseph from Mumbai. I got a job offer from Finland to work in a firm and i applied for my RP at the Delhi Embassy on the 15 of June and got a reply yesterday thats the 13th of July saying that i need to show them my one way ticket to Finland and a 2 week overseas medical policy for the RP to get stamped on my passport. So i guess you will have to wait and relax since this procedure takes min a month for mee at least after my employer asked for a speed up process.

Where in India are you staying and where in Finland will you be going?

All the best with your appllication

Joseph

I hope i am not too late in posting this message

Hi.. Sorry for the loong delay.

Post by dfordhiraj » Thu Jul 29, 2004 12:30 pm

Hi Everybody..

First of all, I would like to thank all the people who have contributed in solving many of my doubts... I'm slowly able to understand how things go in Finland... It has been quite a while since I submitted the documents..

I finally came to knew only two weeks back that the documents are to be submitted by me personally to the embassy.. I did that.. I am waiting for the VISA..

My first impression regarding the processing is really bad.... It doesnt even take this much for any other visa... even for the US visa.. My frnds got visa in 5 days.. and are off for flying 2 days after..

dont know how to get my VISA.. Even at one point I have stopped thinking about the visa and let it come in due time.. I have forgotten it..

I am keeping my fingers crossed and m hoping that it be done soon..

Any ideas or suggestions on expediting the process... As ofnow the news is the documents which I submitted have "reached" finland embassy, on monday, this week...

They are being waited for getting them allocated to a officer...

dont know how much time it will take..

:( :( :( :(

hope, that some of the officials take note of this and improve the process..

Just to clarify.... I believe you are applying for a worker's residence permit, not a visa.

A visa is a completely different thing.

Check this thread http://www...com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=5965 to see how you can expedite the process. Also, make sure you have applied for both your work permit as well as resident permit. (There is separate fees for both of them)

A quick comment abt this:

You are right. Finnish permits are much different from US and offers more flexibility & facilities like social insurance & stuff. You will know this more when you are here. Btw, What makes you think US visas are the toughest in this world? I guess, if you are a professional and have got a job, US visas are the easiest to get.

How do I get that done ?

One more thing.. How do I get the ID number as asked by joefal.. And should I call up the labour ministry over there directly or through my employer ?

The ID number you get after you get here - it depends where you will be living as "Helsinki" for example is 4 different cities with their own magistrates...

Hi

I think you got me wrong.. Actually I am talking about the RP Application registration number which I guess we get once the RP application data is feeded in Embassy over there..

Can you please help in how to expedite the process..

Thanks in advance..

Secondly Currently my employer has said that as I have submitted the documents in Delhi Embassy of Finland, So they cannot send an "urgency letter".

Can anybody (particularly lalc) as he had submitted a emergency letter, and got his RP done.. help me with an emergency letter sample format..

Is it fine for me to call up the finland embassy and ask for the current status. I have the number which was given to me by the delhi embassy..
What else do I need to have..

As of now the status of my application is that it has reached the embassy. but is waiting to be allocated to an officer.. (It has been 2 1/2 weeks ) How do I expedite the process ?

Any ideas :?:

Any help in this regards is greatly admired..

Thanks in advance..

The letter format is a simple official letter stating your case. I dont have it at the moment since it was just an ordinary one.

You will have to keep calling them and asking to whom it is allocated in Helsinki. Once it is allocated, you can send a fax mentioning the officer-in-charge in the Attention field. In my case, I was a little lucky since it was the same employer at both end and I could use the office facilities for everything.

Do pm me or write to me if you need any more info.
I prefer not doing it, if I can't be passionate about it.

Hi Frndz,

I dont know what I can do.. My company has sent the "urgency letter" also to the Embassy/ Labour Ministry/ Consulate (dont know how many govt. officies are there in Finland) :?.. Till now there has been no reply from them.. I applied it on 16th of July... This is really frustrating.. :?..

I thought that in India only the govt. offices are such.. :-)

Any suggestion on still how I can expedite the process ?

Back on the 30th of June I posted...

"But nothing is certain...one small problem..Finland/Public service offices many staff take their summer vacation in July..this could slow things a bit."

Good news ...most of Finland is now back at work....(This is the First Real Monday of work for civil servants!)...
Not so good news is their "In Trays" are full of "Urgent" and "Very Urgent"...Their Coffee cups have to be re-filled a few times...

Thanks Peter!!! :)

This atleast gives some relief... Hope to get the RP application done.. I dont know how is the vacation period in Finland.. but dont they have backups or the whole finland remains closed during the month of July  If that is the case, then I am pretty much surprised.. ?

Any idea on how many more days it might take for the RP application ?
 Wasn't there a single person in Embassy ? I am pretty much surprised and pondering on this...

Should I be calling up the embassy ? If yes, can anyone give me the number of the embassy...

As I saw it on http://www.uvi.fi/ that on tuesday we can enquire about our status..
