Bloody hell, we have a ridiculous situation going at my workplace right now.
A week or two ago, a co-worker (
A, of foreign extraction) was given a task by the effective shift supervisor after it was noticed that
A had nothing to do for over 50 minutes before his shift finished. He didn't go to the plane like he was meant to and was reminded by a co-worker (
B, of Finnish extraction) about this.
A then shoved
B and told him to be quiet, this was then followed by various threats of violence towards
B. Another of my co-workers (
C, of Finnish extraction) overheard and saw what happened as he was in the room at the same time as
A and
B.
A then walks out of the room and swipes out of work some 40 minutes before his shift was due to end.
B informs the shift supervisor of what just went down and he then wrote a report on the incident.
Nothing happened about it for sometime as our Station Manager was away on sick leave and no one else could make decisions on such matters.
Finally today there was a meeting with all parties involved, except for
C because his account of the matter was not deemed unbiased enough.
As it turns out,
A denies everything that
B said had happened and instead claimed he was the subject of racism. He also claimed that he had been in fear of
B and
C.
A will not be reprimanded for his actions towards B but did receive a written warning for leaving work early and not completing an allocated task.
A also intends to take
B to court for his 'racist' accusations.
We all are mystified about what has gone on here, especially seeing as two Finns got the boot recently after a (minor) physical altercation between them a few months ago. It seems that our bosses were more than prepared to act decisively when there were just Finns involved. However when it comes to foreigners, there now appears to different rules...
A has made threats to at least one other person in the past as well, although unfortunately that was never documented. He has been a workmate for about a year, maybe less... He is of middle Eastern origin btw.
B has been a workmate of mine for the last 4 years and is one of the most laidback types you will ever meet. He is also not a liar nor a bully.
C has been a workmate for about 3 years and is also not a liar nor a bully.
This one idiot has now dug himself a massive hole and has managed to alienate himself from the whole workplace. He has also made it that much more difficult for immigrants who follow in his footsteps as people will be less inclined to trust them. I fear that this situation is still yet to come to a head as tempers will be on the boil the next few days.
