Once again its just an observation and one should not become too defensive ,, just think,beside all the frusration caused to those waiting for the next monosyllabic utterance, there,s so much material for humour, and hey, plenty of room for improvement , witness P,s wondrful depiction of history, and I,ve heard that, when out of Finland, they don,t half come alive. , love ands peace., ps, thanks for all the contributions, but it would be good to know who were finns/non finns.

This translates into a general slowness of manner in both speech and action.

Especially when you are waiting in line in the stores, and the customer in front of you goes on and on about some nonsense weather discussion with the cashier, and the cashier just in the normal slow manner does not care at all.... I have never seen slower speech and actions than in Finnish stores, ever. Probably just non-existing customer service, and a general "I don't care about anyone else but me" attitude by other customers, more than anything in the genes.

I just pencil them in with a felt-tip marker, like this: ä.

With a really fine marker, nobody can tell the difference.

"AltGr and 2 acts as a dead key combination to add a diaeresis to a subsequent a,e,i,o,u,w,y,A,E,I,O,U,W,Y (ä, ë, etc.). The shifted 2 key on a UK keyboard generates the double quote ("), which looks a bit like a diaeresis."
